Drama: BLOOD ON THE SUN & JAMES CAGNEY ON FILM - SPECIAL EDITION - 82043

BLOOD ON THE SUN & JAMES CAGNEY ON FILM - SPECIAL EDITION - 82043

BLOOD ON THE SUN
This classic film, set in the late 1920s, focuses on a worldly newspaper editor Nick Condon (James Cagney) of the American owned 'Tokyo Chronicle', who prints a controversial story. Japanese authorities demand a retraction, but Condon refuses and is framed for a murder he is trying to investigate. There is plenty of action here as Cagney even demonstrates his proficiency in jujitsu and wins a slam-bang fight with a brutish Japanese secret service captain...
The sets, atmospheric lighting, and quick paced direction by Frank Lloyd are commendable and enhance Cagney's electrifying performance. Most fascinating are the details relating to the "Tanaka Plan," a real document which outlines Japan's plan to invade Manchuria, stolen in 1927 and exposed in the international press.
B&W - 1945

JAMES CAGNEY ON FILM - A BIOGRAPHY
James Cagney was as diverse as he was intense - a superb talent that reached far beyond the perpetually mimicked characteristics of the reedy voice and staggered walk. He was the ultimate performer, a song and dance man and versatile actor. Cagney captivated us in such early classics as 'Public Enemy' and 'Angels with Dirty Faces'. He thrilled the world in his Oscar winning performance in 'Yankee Doodle Dandy', and stirred up nostalgia in 1981's 'Ragtime'. From his childhood in New York to his luminous film career and turbulent relationship with Warner Studios, this documentary takes us on a trip through the life of a true Hollywood legend.
